We All Have A Backpack

When you live in a small town like Oxford, you get to see many things. One of the things that you will see if you are driving around town around 2:30 is kids walking with backpacks on their way home from school. I saw a group of friends the other day as they were walking home from school and their backpacks looked awfully heavy, and that got me thinking about how we all have burdens that we lug around. We all have things that we are thinking about constantly – topics that really weigh us down. This reminded me about several verses on this idea of burdens. As I was thinking about these verses, they reminded me that a burden is really just something we care about. It might be our job, our family, or our friends, all of which are important, but they are burdens. God has something to say about our cares and burdens in 1 Peter 5:7 which says, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (NKJV) We need to be giving all of our worries to God because He loves us and wants what is best for us. God does not stop there though, He also said in Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”(NKJV) This means we should be helping our brothers and sisters with their burdens, and relying on God with everything. What about you? Are you carrying a big burden like that kid who was walking home from school? Are you going to take the time to give it to God and let Him handle it?
